More storms on way Friday afternoon

March 12, 2010

Severe thunderstorms are being forecasted for our area this afternoon and evening.
The National Weather Service out of Charleston reports that despite the lull in rain Thursday night and into Friday morning, more bad weather will move in Friday afternoon and evening.
"Severe thunderstorms...scattered to numerous showers and thunderstorms will move across much of...Southeast Georgia..." the forecast reads.
Liberty County Emergency Management Agency Director Mike Hodges said it is unlikely that weather spotters will be called out, but officials are aware of the forecast.
"Liberty County Emergency Management is closely monitoring the possibility for localized flooding," he said. "With the rains from yesterday this is a possibility. Please feel free to call our office (368-2201) to report any problems associated with the upcoming weather."
Rain amounts on Thursday varied across the area, but generally were near two inches.
The weather service said the upcoming weather is from a cold front that should not get organized enough for widespread storms, but isolated strong storms could occur.
"The primary hazards will be marginally several hail up to quarter size and damaging wind gusts to 60 mph. The risk for severe weather will be greatest between 3 p.m. and 8 p.m.," the forecast reads.
Many events are planned for this evening, including outdoor sports at area schools. There was no word on them Friday morning.
